Grzegorz Nowaczewski, CEO of VPPlant will be a moderator of the „Demand side response – client, market, technology” seminary. The seminary will take place on October 12th in Warsaw.
The main aim of the DSR market is to increase the stability of the national or local power system. Energy consumers taking part in the DSR increase backup power capacity in the power system by giving up all or part of their energy demand on system operator call. Backup power capacity enables the operator to secure entire system from major failures or blackouts. The Demand Reduction Service (DSR) is one of the effective tools for a network operator to ensure the safety of an electrical infrastructure. As a result of the temporary resignation from energy demand energy savings are generated in the energy system – the spare capacity, which enables the operator to more efficiently manage the stability and efficiency of the entire system.
Currently DSR system works succesfully in many countries. In Poland such services are available only for larger energy consumers as a part of their cooperation and tenders with PSE S.A. However, experiences from others markets show that these kind of services may be provided by other entities soon.
Project, which is under development by the PSE SA, assumes to create two packages for participants of the National Power System (KSE). The Guaranteed Program is intended for recipients who can guarantee a demand reduction during the contracting period with PSE. In return, they will be paid for being ready for the reduction. In the case of using the reduction potential, recipients receive an additional salary for lowering their electricity consumption. The Current Program is aimed at those who can reduce their demand only in certain selected periods while contracting, depending on the current conditions of their functioning. Those customers are entitled to receive additional salary only through energy consumption reduction, but not by being ready to perform the reduction.
